This site is an independent Canadian sales tax calculator built and maintained by Surrey Web Guru, a web design and SEO studio based in Surrey, BC. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or connected to the Canada Revenue Agency, the Government of Canada, or any provincial government.
Why we built it
Working out GST, HST, PST, RST or QST by hand means remembering a different rate for each of the 13 provinces and territories, and doing the math differently depending on whether you know the price before tax, the tax amount, or the total. This tool does that math instantly and shows the breakdown, so shoppers, freelancers and small-business owners can check a number without opening a spreadsheet.
How we keep rates current
Every rate on this site is checked against the Canada Revenue Agency's published GST/HST rate schedule and each province's own revenue agency. The date on every calculator page ("Rate last checked") tells you when that page was last verified. Provincial tax rates do change — Nova Scotia's HST dropped from 15% to 14% in April 2025, for example — and when that happens we update the page and the date.
What this tool is not
This calculator gives estimates for general planning. It does not account for every exemption, point-of-sale rebate, or special category (see each province's page for the exceptions we do cover). It is not a substitute for advice from a Canadian accountant or the CRA directly, especially for GST/HST registration decisions, input tax credits, or anything involving a specific, unusual transaction.
